Chairman of the Board and Founder of Stop Wasting Food Movement Denmark
Selina Juul is the woman who started the fight against food waste in Denmark and put Denmark’s fight on the world map. Juul founded the “Stop Wasting Food” movement in 2008 and has extensive knowledge on food waste; a strong national and international network; and a collaboration with the Danish government, the European Union and the United Nations.
Stop Wasting Food movement Denmark (Stop Spild Af Mad) is Denmark’s largest non-profit movement against food waste. Since its founding in 2008, Stop Wasting Food has helped bring a massive focus on food waste to Denmark’s agenda and has achieved a large number of results in Denmark, in collaboration with the EU and UN. Since 2008, Stop Wasting Food has been covered by Danish and international press more than 7,000 times and has 60,000+ supporters – among them MPs and MEPs as well as Denmark’s former Prime Minister.
Stop Wasting Food is a partner of the United Nations SAVE FOOD initiative, the FAO/UNEP Think.Eat.Save campaign, the EU FUSIONS project and is a member of the European Commission’s EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste.
Juul helped to review the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard, and is a co-developer of the European Joint Declaration Against Food Waste and a member of Danish government’s Partnership Against Food Waste. She published an award-winning leftovers cookbook “Stop spild af mad – en kogebog med mere” with Denmark’s biggest publishing agency Gyldendal and with participation from Danish celebrity chefs and food personalities. She is also a contributor to over 23 Danish and international books and publications on food waste.
Juul is a TEDx speaker and blogger on food waste at The Huffington Post. Since 2010, she has written over 190 articles, blog entries and opinion-editorials on food waste in Danish and international media, among them opinion-editorials with seven Danish Ministers and other politicians.
For her ongoing work with Stop Wasting Food, Selina Juul has received many awards and acknowledgments, including The Womenomics Influencer Award, Nordic Council Nature and Environment Prize, Svend Auken Prize, Cross of Merit Pro Utilitate Hominum of Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, Junior Chamber International Denmark’s The Outstanding Young Person Award and Dane of the Year 2014 for her work against food waste. She is also included in Who’s Who in Denmark.
